If you have rebuilt your carburetors using aftermarket kits, you may have installed some inferior to OE, non-metallic washers that came in the kits

2- M12 washers for the fuel inlet banjo 16094-76500
3- M10 washers for the vent tube fitting or banjo 16335-14610
1- M8 washer for the small screw in "drain" plug on some models 16060-10400
1- **M18 washer for the damper cap 16342-10400 or 16342-10410
1- Float bowl gasket 16064-22010
**The OE washers for the damper caps were always non-metallic, but the aftermarket ones tend to be soft -vs- the correct harder OE ones
